The Oak Creek Recreational Trail will be closed Nov. 14-22 during firearm deer hunting season.
The trail, which extends for about 12 miles from Valparaiso to Brainard, wanders through some prime habitat for deer and those areas attract many hunters each year.
The firearm deer season is the only time the trail is routinely closed during the year.
"That's an agreement we made with area residents when the trail opened in 1996," Dan Schulz, the resources coordinator for the trail's owner, the Lower Platte South Natural Resources District, said in a news release.
"We thought it was a good idea then and it still is. The last thing we want is to have hikers and bikers on the trail under unsafe conditions," he added.
Warning signs will be posted at every trail access and will be taken down soon after the season ends.
