TOP 10 CAR MOVIES

1. "Bullitt" (1968) - A standard cop movie turns classic with the greatest car chase in movie history - through the streets of San Francisco.

2. "American Graffiti" (1973) - George Lucas's early '60s coming-of-age classic is all about cars, and girls and their boyfriends.

3. "Two Lane Blacktop" (1971) - Two drag racers - singer/songwriter James Taylor and Beach Boys drummer Dennis Wilson - live on the road. If you want to see Route 66 before the interstate system tore it apart, here's your chance.

4. "Days of Thunder" (1990) - Tom Cruise is a NASCAR rookie in the best auto racing movie ever. Having Robert Duvall around doesn't hurt, and neither does the action.

6. "Vanishing Point" (1971) - The star of this post-Woodstock road movie is the Dodge Challenger that star Barry Newman drives across the country.

7. "Thunder Road" (1958) - Robert Mitchum is a Korean War vet running moonshine in his hotrod in this classic.

8. "Used Cars" (1980) - Kurt Russell and Jack Warden star in one of the most cynical comedies ever, about the denizens of a used car lot.

9. "Gone in 60 Seconds" (1974, 2000) - The first version of this car theft picture is far superior to the 2000 remake, although it has more spectacular action.

10. "Smokey and the Bandit" (1977) - Had to have one of the Burt Reynolds car movies on this list. This one's the best of the lot.
