Sure, Halloween is fun every year. But a Halloween that falls on a Friday might just be devilishly so.

Whether you’re planning on being a homebody or a party animal, there’s plenty to do for Halloween night. Here’s a rundown of the Halloween happenings for adults.

Halloween Benefit for Mike Kula and Pneumonia Awareness

When: 5 p.m. to 4 a.m.

Where: The Meadowlark Compound, 6505 W. Davey Road

Nearly two months ago, Dave Nockai, 29, had an anxiety attack at Village Inn, which left him in the hospital for a few days. Combining that with some heart problems, his medical bills were stacking up.

He had thought about holding some kind of party/fundraiser for himself, but then he heard that his friend Mike Kula, a Lincolnite in his mid-50s, was in the hospital. Kula,  Nockai said, has long suffered from a chronic recurring pneumonia.

“When I visited him in the hospital, I decided I wanted to do something for this guy,” Nockai said.

The benefit will feature a raffle, bonfire, costume contest, barbecue, dance party and a two-stage live show with these performers and others scheduled to play: Little Brown Jug, Tsumi, Paper People, RC Dub, Boutonnieres, Jodi Loves Hinckley, Gooses, Discount Day Light, Son of 76, Orion Walsh and AM Revival.

A Derby Girl Halloween

When: Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; bout starts at 7:30 p.m.

Where: Pershing Center, 226 S. Centennial Mall

Cost: $10 general admission; $12 trackside seating (18 and older); 12 and under are free.

The No Coast Derby Girls’ Mad Maxines are taking on the Omaha Rollergirls for the final game of the team’s third season. Dress up to partake in costume contests for children and adults, or compete in the contest for best fan dressed as a derby girl. Expect candy and other Halloween surprises for the kids.

Libations Post-Fire Halloween Party

When: 9 p.m.

Where: CluBlue (Libations downtown), 317 S. 11th St.

Yes, the bar owners and staff want to see you there. Heck, if you stop by Libations before the bar’s Halloween night costume party, you’ll get a ticket that waives the $5 cover.

But forgive them if they celebrate a little, too.

“We’re throwing a party for ourselves,” owner Harlan Musil said. “It’s just going to be kind of a stress relief, I think.”

Early Sept. 19, according to police reports, several young men took some paper scraps from the garbage bin outside and set them on fire outside the bar.

The fire torched a door to the bar and caused significant damage to the stairwell inside. A bartender working that night emptied out all of Libations’ extinguishers on the fire and used one from a neighboring bar, too. Firefighting crews put down the rest of the fire.

“It could have been so much worse,” Musil said. “We could have lost the whole building.”

The rebuilding project, Musil said, is going to run at least $25,000. The bar has lost thousands more because of canceled parties, league pool and darts nights.

Libations reopened in early October, but Musil said he thinks a lot of people probably still think it’s closed. So the Halloween party, complete with a DJ and a $300 costume contest, is a kind of grand reopening.
