James D. Nothnagel, 65, passed away Monday (10/05/09) from injuries suffered in a fall on September 28th. Born on January 16, 1944 at Lincoln, Nebraska, Jim was a graduate of Lincoln High School. Owner of Nothnagel Painting, Jim worked as a professional painter for 45 years and was a former board member of the Lincoln Chapter of Painting and Decorating Contractors of America. Jim was an active member of Friedens Lutheran church, serving on the property committee. An avid Husker football fan, Jim enjoyed taking long road trips with his wife Jude to visit their children, grandchildren, family and friends; reading the newspaper from cover to cover each morning from the comfort of his favorite recliner; listening and dancing to oldies music; and pampering the pets in his life. Jim was a friend to everyone he met and always the first to extend a hand or a hug. He lived and loved life to the absolute fullest. Jim was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who brought great joy to his large extended family.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Judith (Sittler Brown) Nothnagel; as well as children,Todd Nothnagel, Lincoln, Neb.; Tamie (Jerry) Dipoto, Fountain Hills, Ariz.; Troy (Merinda) Nothnagel, Bellevue, Neb.; Lisa Brown, Portland, Ore.; Kimberley (Dan) Schmeling, Ogden, Utah; Patrick (Justina) Brown, Bellingham, Wash.; Beth and Chico Solomon, Lincoln, Neb.; and grandchildren Taylor, Jordan and Jonah Dipoto; Elisabeth and Catherine Schmeling; Olivia and Isabella Brown; and Jenay and Aylena Solomon; sisters, Sylvia (Roy) Jones, Bella Vista, Ariz.; Jackie (Don) Benson, Clive, Iowa; Ann (Rex) Aubrey, Bloomfield, Mich.; Sandy Nothnagel, Lincoln, Neb.; many nieces and nephews; and the large Sittler clan. He is preceded in death by father, Otto Nothnagel; mother, Kathryn Lindsyz Nothnagel; brother, Otto Nothnagel, Jr., and beloved Bichons, Murphy and Quincy.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at Friedens Lutheran Church (540 D Street, Lincoln) on Friday (10/16/09) at 1 p.m. Those attending are asked to wear a touch of red as a tribute to Jim.
