Randy Christo is very up front about Christo’s Pub, his downtown bar and grill.
“We’re not Misty’s or Dish or Marz,” he said. “We’re more of a pub, an upper-class pub with some food.”
In August, Christo bought and renamed the former BC’s, located on the corner of 12th and O streets. He began serving food about five weeks ago to generate more income, particularly during the daytime.
“Our main goal is to get a meal out in 20 minutes,” he said. “It’s hard to do that, but we want to get (business people) in and out of here in 30 to 40 minutes.”
To do so, Christo offers a basic pub menu of burgers, salads and sandwiches.
Diners also can order wraps (three choices), paninis (three choices) and pizza (five choices, including a white pizza with grilled chicken, bacon and artichoke hearts).
Sandwich selections include Christo’s Greek Special ($6.95) — an open-face sandwich featuring blackened chicken breast, feta cheese, onion, tomato, spinach and Greek olives on toasted focaccia.
Another house favorite is the Smoke Gouda BLT ($5.95). Also served open-faced, it features traditional BLT toppings with melted smoked Gouda on sourdough.
Of course, Christo’s bread and butter is the bar. The pub now has tap beer to go along with its premium well drinks, martinis and wines selected by Christo’s significant other, Maggie Stanosheck.
A coworker and I stopped in for lunch earlier this week. We skipped the appetizers, which features the usual fare, and ordered entrees.
I had the roast beef and sharp cheddar panini ($5.95) and my co-worker selected the Greek sandwich. Sandwiches, wraps, burgers and sandwiches come with choice of side: waffle fries, chips, salad, cole slaw or potato salad.
Non-alcoholic beverages are included with the meal — a nice touch.
Christo’s staff hit the mark on speed. Our food was out within 10 minutes, but it was a slow lunch for the pub — just two other tables were occupied.
Downtown is filled with eating options. Christo’s gives diners another one. And, as the owner said, it’s not a Misty’s. It’s just a pub, where you can get a burger and some fries without a long wait.
