Besides overeating, watching football and shopping, the Thanksgiving holiday marks a big time for the box office. The following movies open in theaters Wednesday:

“Bee Season.” Richard Gere plays a man who tries to avoid dealing with his crumbling marriage by following  his 11-year-old daughter’s quest to become a spelling bee champion in this drama. Rated PG-13. Playing at the Grand.

“The Ice Harvest.” An attorney (played by John Cusack) and a strip club owner (played by Billy Bob Thornton) try to skip town after they embezzle $2 million from a crime boss in Wichita, Kan., in this comedy-thriller. Rated R. Playing at the Grand.

“In the Mix.” A New York City nightclub DJ (played by Usher) is hired to protect a Mafia princess (played by Emmanuelle Chriqui) in this crime-themed romantic comedy. Rated PG-13. Playing at the Grand.

“Just Friends.” An L.A. music executive (played by Ryan Reynolds) hopes to  become more than "just friends" with an old high school classmate (played by Amy Smart) when he makes an unexpected visit to his New Jersey hometown in this romantic comedy. Rated PG-13. Playing at Edgewood and the Grand.

“Pride and Prejudice.” Keira Knightley is Elizabeth Bennett and Matthew MacFadyen is Fitzwilliam Darcy in the latest adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic novel. Rated PG. Playing at the Grand.

“Rent.” The award-winning Broadway musical, about a group of friends living the Bohemian lifestyle in New York City’s East Village, hits the big screen with Rosario Dawson and Tracie Thoms joining the original cast. Rated PG-13. Playing at East Park and the Grand.

“Yours, Mine & Ours.” A couple of widows (played by Dennis Quaid and Rene Russo) try to get married despite efforts by their 18 children to sabotage the wedding in this family-friendly comedy. Rated PG. Playing at Edgewood, the Grand and SouthPointe.

In theaters Friday:

“Capote.” Philip Seymour Hoffman stars as Truman Capote in this biopic about the famous author and journalist. Rated R. Playing at the Ross.

“The Untold Story of Emmett Louis Till.” Director Keith Beauchamp focuses on the 10-year investigation into the 1955 Mississippi murder of a black  teenager from Chicago in this documentary. Unrated. Playing at the Ross.
