Local officials have scheduled a news conference for 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the University of Nebraska Technology Park to “unveil specific plans regarding a major economic development project” at the park.

According to an e-mail sent to the Journal Star, the project involves a national company and “includes a new office building, new jobs and significant infrastructure investment for the Lincoln area.”

Technology Park President Steve Frayser declined Monday to give any details of the announcement, but speculation has centered on Perot Systems as being the company involved.

Perot, which is based in the Dallas suburb of Plano, has about 1,000 employees in Lincoln spread out among several sites doing administrative and business services functions for insurance companies.

According to documents submitted to the Lincoln-Lancaster County Planning Department, the Technology Park project would include a 150,000-square-foot office building and cost around $25 million.

People in commercial real estate who spoke to the Journal Star earlier this month said Perot Systems has for years been looking for a local site to consolidate all of its Lincoln operations.
