Heritage Warranty has eliminated 30 jobs in a restructuring plan.
The move leaves the company with about 60 Lincoln employees, but if all goes well, company President Larry Roseberry said, an additional 60 jobs may be created here.
Heritage, which has an office at 8055 O St., markets vehicle service contracts, often called extended warranties, to automobile dealers, who then sell them to customers.
Roseberry said the 30 jobs, which were eliminated earlier this month, were support roles that duplicated work done at another office in Columbus, Ohio.
Of the 30 employees, four were offered jobs in Columbus, but all four declined, Roseberry said.
He said three of the affected employees have been called back to work and four or five have found other jobs.
Roseberry said the employees are receiving 60 days of severance pay, and the company is assisting them in finding other jobs.
Roseberry said the Lincoln office will change its focus to doing more direct marketing. He said the company is working with Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman and the state Department of Economic Development to create the additional jobs in Lincoln. If the jobs are created, Roseberry said the company would probably start hiring sometime in November.
Heritage was bought in July 2004 by Car Care Warranties of Columbus, Ohio. At the time, the company had 115 employees in Lincoln and officials said no layoffs were planned.
