Nebraska has the seventh fastest average broadband Web surfing speed, at 707 kilobits per second, according to a survey by PCMAG.com.
Nebraska trailed only Nevada, rated Number 1 with 781 Kbsp., Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut and New York.
The Website reported 38 percent of Nebraskans satisfied with their broadband service and a median monthly price of $40
Broadband penetration is at 63.3 percent, the site said.
“We don't have much information on Nebraska, which makes it hard to explain the oddly speedy state,” the site reported. “It's a big state with a relatively low population, which would seem to make it an unattractive place for ISPs to target. Yet users reported really tremendous speeds with Cox cable—909 Kbps. (We don't report information on ISPs with low user counts, thus the lower average score.) Who knew landlocked surfing could be so fast?”
The region with the fastest Internet service—the West—is just 14 Kbps faster than the slowest, the South at 551 Kbps, in the survey.
The difference between states, on the other hand, is “shocking,” with Web site reported, with No. 1 Nevada offering residents Internet more than twice as fast as bottom-ranked New Mexico.
