| What if What Not To Wear met Where Not To Go? Cara Pesek and Brigitte Dale go over trends, fashion, celebrity gossip and even a little news in this one-of-a-kind Weblog. |
07/03/08An observation about FacebookI could be wrong on this, but I secretly think that a whole lot of the people who update their Facebook status more than once a day are doing so because they are Facebook friends with a real-life frenemy, and they’re trying to somewhat sneakily communicate to said frenemy how awesome their life is. Or maybe not. 07/01/08Catty Girls AdviseDear Catty Girls: It seems like all the options for outdoor summer hats are out of style this year — the cowboy hat, the bucket hat, even the bandanna. What can I wear boating that won’t make me look like a fashion victim? Brigitte: This year, I’m liking simple, vintage-inspired white straw hats. I think they look very classic. But for boating, I’d recommend shopping for a hat at a discount store or just wearing something old that you have around the house. Otherwise, you risk becoming an uptight person in a fashionable hat, spending all your boating time worried about losing your expensive hat in the wind or getting splashed with dirty water. Cara: I agree with Brigitte on the simple vintage-inspired straw hats. I also like them in white. And black. And when I did a Google search for straw hats a few minutes ago, I found a black-and-white striped one I liked. Watch “Four Weddings and a Funeral” for inspiration. Of course, these hats seem very dressy and would look out of place on a motorboat at Branched Oak Lake. Probably if you’ll be drinking can beer out of koozies, you can wear whatever hat you like (and I think the bucket hat is probably overdue to make a reappearance on the summer fashion scene). If the situation is even just one step up — like you’ll be drinking drinks out of actual glasses or slightly fancy, non-lite beer — then go for the big straw hat. Brigitte: While we’re on the subject, here’s my list of things that look out of place on a motorboat on a lake: shoes with pointy heels, delicate jewelry, iPods, leather purses, lip liner, socks. Cara: Being on a motorboat on a lake is a fun chance to dress way, waaaay down, and wear things like Britney-style cutoff jean shorts with the pockets showing, halter tops and mirrored sunglasses. It’s also a nice chance to break out the souvenir wedding koozie that says something like, “Our love will last until we’re old. This will keep your beer cold.” 06/30/08please noSo in the past few days, I've seen several late teen/early twenties looking guys on bikes and walking around wearing... WRESTLING SINGLETS. Seriously. I know it's hot out, but please, let's not do that. Yoga vacationMy two-week long vacation will begin in 11 days, and already I am counting the days. I have two short trips planned, some chores I’ve been putting off forever to take care of (the worst of which involves washing all of my blinds) and a book to read. I’m also planning to spend a day or two hitting some Omaha yoga classes. Any recommendations? 06/27/08Random fashion note of the dayI recently bought a tank top with ropes instead of straps. It’s not really me, but I liked the colors and I liked the way it fit. The first time I wore it, a friend of mine complimented my shirt and then said that he liked it because it looked like I had been shipwrecked and then made my outfit out of scavenged materials.
