Lincoln police are investigating an armed robbery at a Lincoln comic book store Monday night.

Lincoln Police Capt. David Beggs said that police were dispatched to Comic World, 233 N. 48th St., at 9:11 p.m.

There, a man carrying a handgun ordered a clerk to empty the cash register. Then he ordered employees into a backroom while he fled in an unknown direction, Beggs said.

He said police were looking for a black man, about 5 feet 7 inches tall, medium build. The suspect has short hair, a mustache and was wearing a black leather jacket at the time of the robbery.

Nobody at the store was hurt during the robbery, Beggs said. Police continued to search the area Monday night.

" Does that store have one of those useless "no concealed firearms" signs on the door? "

Ha wrote on January 13, 2009 3:26 am:
" A robber probably didn't bother to conceal his gun so that sign doesn't apply "

" Right next to the new Police Station down there. I'm surprised no one has tried to rob the Police Station itself. "

What wrote on January 13, 2009 7:27 am:
" What would it matter if they had a sign on the door? If someone is going to rob the place, they are still going to do it. They dont care about the law, so they aren't going to care about a sign. All it would do is give them another charge when they are caught. "

" I think the original poster was pointing out that the store might have said no guns allowed, but in actuality it was only preventing non-violent law-abiding citizens from carrying guns into the stores.

One of the basic arguments about the restrictions on the CCW. "

" with the economy the way it is it'll proboly get worse.. but then again it could have to do with all drugs around too. the police were probably out harassing other citizen that don't brake the law. for instance people with jobs.. "

" He probably is a felon and shouldnt be in possession of a firearm. Wait a minute robbery is against the law so once they outlaw guns once again the law abiders suffer "

Sign Sign wrote on January 13, 2009 9:09 am:
" What matters about those "no concealed firearms" signs is that, much like a protection order, they are effectively useless and only serve to give a false sense of security. As was alluded to, anyone willing to commit a very serious felony crime won't even bat an eye at one of those signs. All the Kwik Shops in Omaha have them, with no effect at all on thugs, except letting them know that they'll be the only one with a gun in the place. "

Steve wrote on January 13, 2009 10:15 am:
" While I do not think that the signs do any good, a private store owner should have every right to do as he pleases in his own place of business. Just do your business elsewhere. "

Disappointed Tax Payer wrote on January 13, 2009 10:46 am:
" These guys will never get caught! The police spend all of their time driving around and pulling over people that are not bothering anyone. So, there is never any police force left to catch the real criminals in the city. The priorities of the Lincoln Police Department are completely backwards and the people that suffer from it are the honest tax payers. It's very discouraging! "

" To those insinuating LPD isn't doing it's job, please look into your christal balls and then contact LPD to let them know when/where robberies will be committed. "

" Just wanted to comment that i was driving yesterday for about 20 min total time around the cornhusker area and saw 5 cops in that whole time (maybe they were the same ones but i saw 5 cop cars) and although i do believe that the cops in this town do target drivers rather than crime, i would like to know how all of you commenting expect these cops to be at ashley lynns or the comic store to stop these crimes from happening. nobody got a make of a vhehicle. do you want them hanging out in tanning salons and comic stores now? "

GMP wrote on January 13, 2009 12:32 pm:
" For those who think the LPD does not do a good job protecting us, go on a ride-along, esp on a weekend night and see what they have to put up with. "

tangent wrote on January 14, 2009 4:12 pm:
" On a tangent that probably won't get posted...

Let's say a business has a sign that says no concealed weapons like they can. Now, say something happens to me inside. I say the store is now responsible for my safety inside and if something happens to me or I'm robbed that the store should reimburse me since they took responsibility for my safety. "
