A Lincoln couple was sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court for conspiring to distribute methamphetamine in the city over a two-year period.

Lloyd Steven Brown, 55, was sentenced to 10 years in prison. His wife, Kim Brown, 52, was sentenced to 46 months in prison.

The couple conspired to distribute 500 grams to 1.5 kilograms of a substance containing meth between Jan. 1, 2006, and Jan. 15, 2008, according to a press release from U.S. Attorney Joe Stecher. The Browns pleaded guilty to the charges on Sept. 15.

According to the release, Kim Brown originally faced a prison sentence of at least 10 years, but she qualified for a lesser sentence because she did not have a significant criminal history and she aided law enforcement after her arrest.

Two others — William Betts and the Browns’ adult son, John Michael Steven Brown — were previously sentenced to 135 months and 121 months, respectively, for their roles in the distribution of the drugs.

" She ratted out other in the drug distribution system. The more she talked the lesser sentence she was given. Has nothing to do with criminal history. Talk first and you will spend less time. What a justice system we have. This does nothing to hinder the drug trade from the cartels in Mexico. "

" The Meth cartels? Meth isn't cocaine. It doesn't grow on trees in South America. It's made with chemicals you can get here...

Police don't seem to be able to get much done without getting those arrested to roll up on their superiors. It doesn't really do much good to give massive sentences to the low level dealers, because there is always going to be someone to take their place... "

" Let her rat them all out. Meth is a drug straight from the pits of hell. I have seen it ruin marriages, destroy minds and even kill. And I don't mean on the news, but actually seen the effects on meth to those that I love.

Meth is pure evil. All you supposed weekend warriors and part time users are deluded if you think you are in control.

So, if she helped lock up any more dealers of this filth, than she deserved to get less time. "

" Sounds like sufficient sentences me. I hope they get some rehabilitation in prison. Prison isn't just allows about punishment. It is also meant to rehabilitate in a very controlled enviroment. We don't need anymore unproductive people in this society. These people will be out before you know it. The question is...will they become productive members of our society? It is ultimately up to the couple, but they will need some help. "

" They have BOTH been involved in this for at least 35 years. If they wouldnt of been caught or watched sooner they would of been caught with a lot more. If you do the crime, you should have to do the time. If she wanted to rat, let her but that doesnt mean she should get out earlier, she still was just as guilty. "

" I thought the new law forcing everyone in Nebraska who wanted to by an effective cold medicine containing pseudoephedrine to sign a log book was going to bring an end to all methamphetamine crime. Hmmmm. Another law that didn't do what was promised. "

" central Nebraska YOU actually believe that the law concerning over the counter medicine was going to stop meth use and or production?come on in innings over bring your glove . yeesh . as for the ratting out well criminals do that . i do hope she gets treatment in prison . "

Central Nebraska wrote on December 5, 2008 10:14 am:
" To "Breaking the law": Did you really believe I was serious? What I wrote was a joke.....just like the law that makes every law abiding citizen of Nebraska sign away their privacy when they buy a simple cold medicine containing pseudoephedrine. Meanwhile, the meth criminals and users continue unabated. Thanks Nebraska legislators! "

" Are you kidding me? Rehabilitate in a Nebraska prison???? You have got to be kidding. When they check in, all they get are numbers to live by, 3 hots and a cot.....our prison systems dont rehab anyone...they just make the prisoners more intuned to return to their previous activities. Nebraska says it will crack down on drug users, instill the toughest penalties but hey....why not keep making plea deals....that always helps...It is too bad that everyone involved with the Browns didnt go down...you would have cut down the meth problem alot more...What a JOKE!! "

" I cant believe that is all that family got after a 2yr of watching what was going on and all the drug dealing they were doing.Lets just lock them up so we can pay their way til the time comes for them to get released, What a joke, so I guess if your a snitch your not as guilty and you dont have to pay for what you do. I thought the laws were getting tougher on drug dealers and users .Seems to me they should have both been locked up alot longer and should have been fined so at least maybe someday they would have to pay for what they did after all selling for 2yrs they should have quit a savings put away. "

Fair wrote on December 5, 2008 6:38 pm:
" Ok you all want to down grade this family!? Why didn't the government and/or state officals step in and stop this ring before a 2 yr mark. Take them off the streets and the dope they were running? No instead they sit and watch others (moms, dads, sisters, brothers, your own kids) get their hands on it and distroy their lives. I feel that the government and state are just as much at fault. This family is paying with prison time what is the punishment for the law officals that sit want watch this all go down? What they let this go on so they have more "evidence" against the "ring" involved while others get hooked and/or start dealing themselves? How does that help others? Anyone ever think about all that? "

" The way you all sit here and bad mouth others when I am sure each of you have your own skeletons in your closet. Sweep your own front porch before sweeping others! This family is doing time for their life mistakes.

Further more she didn't rat out others re-read the story "aided law enforcement" does not mean she ratted anyone out. She didn't fight the charges, did her daily U/A tests (and passed) plus the court said she was a "minor player". That is why she got a lesser sentence.

Know the facts before you state untruthful remarks. "

" To "Unfair" 35 years huh? How would you know that? Maybe a sister - in - law to the family? Sounds to me YOU knew this was going on longer...why did you not ever do anything about it? I believe that is something that is called "Aiding & Abetting?" Hmmmmmmm.... "
