Ice slows morning traffic
By the Lincoln Journal Star
Lincoln residents woke up to the first measurable snow of the season Wednesday morning.
Around 7 a.m., nine Lancaster County Sheriff’s deputies were out working accidents, mostly fender-benders, according to a county dispatcher.
Lincoln Fire and Rescue responded to a one-vehicle rollover accident on the 27th Street Interchange of Interstate 80 right around 6 a.m., said Deputy Chief Pat Borer.

A pregnant woman was taken to the hospital, but she did not appear to be badly hurt, Borer said.
Some snow-packed areas were slick, Borer said.
There was a continued 50 percent chance of snow in the morning, followed by a chance of flurries, with a high near 31. The forecast was blustery, with a north northwest wind 21 to 24 mph decreasing to between 9 and 12 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph. Less than half an inch of daytime snow accumulation was expected.
Forecasters warned some areas of blowing snow might occur as winds of 25 to 30 mph were possible, with gusts up to 35 or 40 mph.
The evening was expected to be mostly cloudy, with a low around 16.
Thursday’s forecast is mostly cloudy, with a high near 30.
Friday is expected to be partly sunny, with a high near 37.

I was driving a big 4x4 suv and was SHOCKED at how many mini vans were passing me like I was standing still. I would really like to urge people to SLOW DOWN when weather/road conditions are not ideal. Read the paper the day before...watch the news...know in advance that you may need to leave a little early and slow down. "

It is ridiculous if your employer was upset at you for being 10-30 minutes late today. I wish more people would worry about their safety than mainly worried about being a few minutes late.

Lighten up and realise this has nothing to do with God being taken out of or put into our schools, Obama taking away your guns, or if the founding fathers were Christians. Heck you could even enjoy the beautiful glistening ground and be thankful it was not 12 inches deep. "

I was out this morning and didn't think it was to bad. I guess people should slow down and take there time. But wait then you would have to leave early for work. Oh and don't forget speeding threw that yellow light. Maybe if the city puts the speed camera's in people wouldn't have to worry about speeding. I have to say of all the city's I have been to Lincoln drivers SUCK. "

While this is not exactly rocket science, if I had tried to rush, I probably would have the one who got hit by the car who couldn't stop at the red light on O Street.
Grow up, quit complaining, and learn how to drive. If it is that unsafe for you to go out then STAY HOME! "

Check out the updated article about the 84 reported accidents. It says that the brine solution was not applied this week because the regular day was Thanksgiving, and they only got the bridges treated with the brine solution. The Rosa Parks bridge into downtown is usually the first place to ice up in this city, and it was ice free this morning due to the brine that actually was laid down. How could they not get this done when this has been forcasted forecasted a week. I am sure most of these people in the accidents would have liked to pay the city employees a little overtime. "

And is it really that important that in weather like we had today the first thing you do is dial that cell phone when you put the car in drive and head off down the road or are you calling that someone special to say you should be here with me cause you aint never seen a wreck like your about to because I'm not paying attention I'm on the phone.See you on the 5:00 news.
Quit complaining and slow your roll the world out there will wait. "
