LINCOLN, Neb. — Nebraskans are helping Europeans policymakers who are wrestling with the European Union’s aversion to genetically modified crops.

University of Nebraska-Lincoln plant geneticist Sally MacKenzie was part of a Nebraska delegation that visited Europe. She testified before the European Union’s agriculture committee.

She says European opposition to biotechnology may be softening because of economic pressures and the success other parts of the world have had with biotechnology in ag production.

Gov. Dave Heineman has invited the EU committee members to visit Nebraska so they can learn more about biotechnology and how it works for Nebraska farmers and ranchers.
