Two Omaha men at the Nebraska game missed the good part after they allegedly tried to pull one over on the security staff, according to Lincoln police.

Lincoln Police Capt. Anthony Butler said an event security staffer saw two men walking from the Memorial Stadium stands onto the football field during the Cornhuskers’ final home game of the season against Colorado. One man wore an orange event security jacket and and another wore a security vest, Butler said, but the staff member didn’t recognize either of them.

So he confronted them and asked who they were, Butler said.

He told police the men said they found the jackets and used them to get on the field.

The two, Ross Menard, 34, and Morgan Helms, 35, didn’t get to see much else. They were escorted out of the stadium, ticketed on suspicion of theft, and jailed, Butler said. They both were out of custody on Saturday.

The incident occurred between 4 p.m. and 4:13 p.m., according to the police report. Nebraska kicker Alex Henery’s 57-yard, game-winning field goal sailed through the uprights at 5:28 p.m.

" Like Ron White said...you can't fix stupid.

You can toss them in the pokey overnight, though...LOL "

" I love how the story goes out of its way to make sure we know that the guys missed "the goal".

The implied message here is: If you're thinking about doing this yourself, you shouldn't because you might miss a good part of the game.

Apparently the obvious ethical reasons aren't enough for our average reader. "

" some people like to live a little, while others will have nothing in their "book of exciting things we did when we were young". It hurt nobody, and it sounds like security was open-eyed. Win-win "

" Lighten up Cole, you have to admit it's a funny story. Ethically this isn't a big deal either so this reader was satisfied. "let he who is without sin cast the first stone" "

" We did this when we went to college. It was different time then, but it was a great way to see the game. "

" If you think this wasn't a big deal, ask yourself what security guards are for. If someone were attacked, if a fight broke out in the stands, if someone fell off the bleachers and needed help, they would turn to a security guard and who would they get? Someone trained to help or someone playing a prank to get onto the field? "
