Embarrassed for you wrote on March 15, 2008 11:59 pm:
" You name Birkel as the SS captain, but she didn't even make the OWHs team. Your selections have no credibility and are shameful. "

Amy wrote on March 16, 2008 8:25 am:
" I just got done reading the Omaha World Herald & I find it strange that the girl you chose to be caption of the girls super state team can't even make their super state team let alone caption. Is this political or what? Another thing Edwards? How can 2 papers differ so. At least the OWH is honest enough not to put girl form Omaha on the team if they don't deserve it. "

List wrote on March 16, 2008 9:27 am:
" Ron, is this your list or the list given to you by Dan Leosing and the shooting stars. Man, you have got to get out of bed with this guy. "

What..... wrote on March 16, 2008 1:47 pm:
" Tell me Kate Edwards is better than a few players on the Second Team Super State, please. Did you forget Crete played several class C schools and struggled with and lost to top B schools, case in point the last game of the season. She also had a father who made sure she had enough playing time to get her average up...just ask the other players or parents. Guess we won't have to worry about that next year. Kate is good but not as good as most of those on the 2nd team. There were more deserving, shame on you. "

Interested Observer wrote on March 16, 2008 1:54 pm:
" List, maybe the program working, it is helping those who want to put the extra work and should be ridiculed for doing so, they should be rewarded! Don't fault them because they belong to a certain program. It is very evident that this program does improve skills and make them a cut above..why shouldn't they be recognized? If there is any doubt, you should tune into the State Tournament and watch those who put in the extra time other than the required 2 hour after school practice. "

you people wrote on March 16, 2008 3:29 pm:
" the all-state teams every year in every sport are poorly done and are thereby pointless, but if you're going to take issue with a selection, it should be for including Kastanek and not anything having to do with Birkel. Should she be captain (and Amy, c'mon . . . "caption"? really??)? Probably not, but not because the World-Herald didn't include her. They are just as incompetent at this as the LJS, probably more so. The LJS just seems to smack more of condescension and parochialism with all of the old-guard bloc- like Powell and Ryly Jane- still making the determinations. Powell's apologist diatribe elsewhere on here does nothing but serve as a perfect illustration that he, like most sports media personalities based on what I've experienced, is concerned first and foremost with keeping himself in the good graces of the most celebrated coaches and athletes. We hope for insight, we'll take objectivity, but we get cronyism. I agree with the last comment about Lesoing- somebody please tell me again why this guy is so important and highly regarded (by some). I'll make the same argument that I make over and over every year- if you can't be fair and comprehensive, don't have all-state teams. "

East High student wrote on March 16, 2008 4:31 pm:
" Congrats KK "

Amazed wrote on March 16, 2008 8:17 pm:
" Hey (you people) just because your daughter did not make the OWH super state team, it is no reason for you to take a cheap shot at the Kastanek kid. I watched the 2 girls play at state & anyone watching knows that Kastanek is more talented. NO your daughter did not deserve to be captain. I also think Knudson deserved to be on that list before your daughter "

LSE FAN wrote on March 16, 2008 8:20 pm:
" Katie Birkel is one of the most amazing basketball players I have ever seen, and it is a SHAME to think that some people don't seem to realize or understand that she is the perfect candidate for the captain position. More than likely, "Embarrassed for you" probably has never even seen Katie play, yet has the audacity to say the LJS has no credibility. I feel embarrassed for you, sir/ma'am. Way to spend your nose in the paper and not actually watching these amazing players! Quit your whining and let them enjoy their achievements! "

Next year wrote on March 16, 2008 9:58 pm:
" Have you checked out the roster for next year at LSW girls basketball. They are loaded. I'm sure with the returning athletes they will make it to state with no problem. They will give LSE a run for their money. Everything is in place for a run for the championship. Outstanding leadership coming back. Go hawks. "

what a shame wrote on March 17, 2008 8:50 am:
" Kastanek and Birkel are the real deal. They do deserve those honors. It is sad though that probably the best team in the state (SSC) did not get anyone on SS first team. I guess that is what teams that focus on teamwork and playing everyone get. Do we reward big points vs. lower division teams or teamwork/team play? "

What?? wrote on March 17, 2008 9:15 am:
" In response to next year....What are you talking about. LSW is not going to be stacked. Several of the Varsity players are not even coming back next year and the next year seniors are said to not even be playing. Congrats to the SE girls for a great season. Don't let anyone take it away from you. your fans at LSW!!! "

Just be happy wrote on March 17, 2008 9:52 am:
" Cant we just be happy for the girls that made it? And for those who didnt and felt like they should, if your not a senior try harded for next year! Congrads to all the girls who made it! "

what? wrote on March 17, 2008 9:56 am:
" when are we going to look at a player who can take over a game? Phipps from SSC showed top notch leadership this year. She broke down a lot of defenses and dished out a lot of assists. You want to look at points? Look at the points she created. She also scored when her team needed someone to score. "

out west, way out west wrote on March 17, 2008 10:51 am:
" I'm embarrassed for all of you that are putting down 'who' makes it and 'who' doesn't...and you're adults? I'm sorry, but some of you people just sound whiny.
Sometimes it's hard to remember that these are KIDS. It's quite an accomplishment for all those that make it, don't take that away from them. Maybe we should be examples for kids out there on how to take things that don't always go our way, and be happy for those that good things do happen to. We need to teach our kids that we don't always get to be "#1", but it's how you practice, how you play, how you win and how you lose that matters, on and off the court. Of course there are more kids out there that deserve to be recognized, but please don't knock the ones that did. "

let em play wrote on March 17, 2008 11:03 am:
" Congrats to all the girls listed on any of the all-state teams. It's an honor and one that you should not let anybody take away, especially by their words. All 3 LSE girls honestly deserve this honor. Have you ever watched them play? The amazing talent and teamwork displayed by these girls is incredible. All three have their own special qualities, but they all share one thing, selflessness. It doesn't matter which club they played on, it's how they played this past year that granted them this honor. It's unfortunate that other's opinions sucks the air out of their sail. Good luck to all the graduating seniors with future basketball endeavors. "

LSW student wrote on March 17, 2008 2:06 pm:
" I am a student at southwest and involved in sports all year round and I would just like to say congrats to all 3 southeast girls and that you are great players and you deserved it "
