Papillion man pleads in death of mother’s boyfriend
By The Associated Press
PAPILLION — A Papillion man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter and third-degree assault in what he argues was the unintentional death of his mother’s boyfriend.
Eric Wallace had faced a second-degree murder charge before reaching a plea agreement with prosecutors. The 29-year-old pleaded guilty to the charges on Thursday and faces up to 20 years in prison. He will be sentenced in January.
Authorities said Wallace killed 58-year-old Mark Wingate, whose body was found Jan. 12 at his mother’s Papillion home. Both men also lived there.
Autopsy results indicated Wingate died of asphyxiation and smothering. Prosecutors say the autopsy also indicated that heart disease contributed to Wingate’s death.
