UNL prof wins national teaching award

A University of Nebraska-Lincoln economist has been named one of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching’s “U.S. Professors of the Year.”
David Rosenbaum was honored Thursday in Washington, D.C., with the other winning teachers at the Folger Shakespeare Library.
Rosenbaum, associate director of academic affairs at the Jeffrey S. Raikes School of Computer Science and Management and a professor of economics, already has been recognized at the campus level for his teaching skills.
He is a past winner of the College of Business Administration Distinguished Teaching Award and the Outstanding Economics Teacher of the Year from Omicron Delta Upsilon, among other awards.
Teaching, Rosenbaum said, is a passion because he loves helping young people learn.
“To me teaching boils down to a very thoughtful process of how you get students engaged in the learning process, and everything I do is geared toward getting students engaged,” he said.
Rosenbaum is a 23-year veteran of UNL. His classes cover basic economic principles, finance principles, international trade and macroeconomics.
He said he makes student involvement a priority. For classes of 200-plus students, for example, he would lecture, then have students pair off for short assignments.
“Get the students involved. That’s where they really learn,” he said.
Rosenbaum was nominated for the Carnegie Foundation award by College of Business Administration Dean Cynthia Milligan.
