17-year-old briefly escapes from Douglas Co. youth center
By The Associated Press
OMAHA — A 17-year-old boy is back behind bars after police say his 18-year-old girlfriend helped him escape from the Douglas County Youth Center in Omaha.
Police say the pair were arrested about an hour after the escape Sunday night. Investigators say Deandre Sanders’ girlfriend used a bolt cutter to cut a hole in the fence of the center’s recreation area.
At the time of his escape, Sanders was being held on charges of attempted murder, first-degree assault and a weapons count for a September incident that left two women injured.
Sanders’ girlfriend was arrested on suspicion of being an accessory.
Youth Center supervisor Brad Alexander says the center’s recreation area is closed and further safety precautions are being taken.
