Police: Woman overcharged store for newspapers
By the Lincoln Journal Star
Talk about an expensive newspaper. Police allege 22-year-old Veronica Trejo, an independent contractor for USA Today, delivered the papers to a Lincoln convenience store, took the papers that didn't sell the next day and overbilled the store -- to the tune of $7,363.05 between Jan. 1 and Oct. 31.
Officer Katie Flood said chief financial officer at Whitehead Oil discovered the U-Stop at 942 S. 27th St. was being overbilled and confronted Trejo about it earlier this month.
She allegedly charged the store $8,060.34 for the papers she said they sold. But, it turns out they only sold $697.29 of the papers, Flood said.
On Tuesday, Trejo, of 3118 N. Cotner Blvd., turned herself in to Lincoln police, who arrested her on suspicion of felony theft.
