Man pleads no contest to arson at Wesleyan frat
By the Lincoln Journal Star
Brandon Lovegrove was set to go to trial Tuesday on attempted first-degree arson, a felony charge.
But Lovegrove, who was accused of setting a fire at his Nebraska Wesleyan University fraternity the same night a second fire proved fatal, pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of third-degree arson.
Lovegrove, 23, now is set to be sentenced on that charge Jan. 27.

Prosecutors say Lovegrove set a calendar on fire at Phi Kappa Tau fraternity house hours before a Nov. 16, 2006, fire claimed the life of 19-year-old Wesleyan student Ryan Stewart. The fire also injured three others.
Another student grabbed the burning calendar and stomped it out in a stairwell. It did not cause the fatal fire, authorities have said.
Lovegrove was a senior from Grafton at the time of the fire.
The day of the fire, investigators found numerous fireworks in and around the house at 5305 Huntington Ave. Fraternity members said they’d lit the fireworks as part of a three-day celebration to welcome new pledges.
