State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company, the largest insurer of autos in Nebraska and in the nation, said it is raising its ratesin Nebraska an average of 2.3 percent effective Dec. 15.

Even after the rate change, State Farm’s overall rate level in Nebraska will be 14.3 percent lower than it was five years ago, the company said.

The cost of liability, medical payments and comprehensive coverages are all increasing, State Farm said, but the price of collision coverage remains unchanged.

Premium changes for individual motorists will vary depending on the coverages they carry, the discounts for which they qualify, where they live, the kind of car insured, who drives it and how much it is driven.

About one in every four cars insured in Nebraska is insured by State Farm, the insurer said.

" Looks like I'll be shopping around. This is garbage. If one company sees a reason to raise premiums, you would think they all would. NOPE, just State Farm. So much the "Good Neighbor" stuff. "

" say what you want think again. I'm a state farm loyalist. they have been great to me in the past, and I will continue to get great coverage for a few more dollars. nothing gets cheaper anymore. "

Another policyholder wrote on November 17, 2008 12:24 pm:
" I'm happy with the service I get through State Farm. Have you ever heard of the saying "you get what you pay for?" Trust me, it's true! I wouldn't have been with this company for 30 years now if I weren't satisfied. "

" the auto insurance in missouri went down about 3% this year. I had state farm auto a few years ago and canceled after refusal by them to pay in full. I have hartford now with full coverage on three cars one of them driven by a teen. I recently priced state farm on my tri-year price search and hartford beat them by $600 yearly. Now they want a raise. Guess the CEO'S need a bonus this year huh? "

" My rates have been increasing the last two months, now they are going to raise them again? They may be losing a 30 year customer. "

" you're going to shop based on an average 2.3 percent increase? did you know that a filed increase doesn't necessarily mean every policy will increase? you might actually see a premium decrease. if you're that price-sensitive, i'll guarantee you right now that you can find a cheaper rate than state farm. ask any independent agent. i'm not advocating staying with state farm, but at least be an informed shopper. "

" State Farm insures about half the cars in Omaha. Any guess what the payout lookied like after the June 27th storm blew through? I got paid quickly for that and all the damage to my house. Besides, the premiums are only keeping pace with the rate of inflation. "

state farm wrote on November 17, 2008 2:17 pm:
" I've been a state farm customer for almost 20 years (homeowners, car, and motorcycle). In that time, I have had virtually every kind of claim (except car theft) and they have stood there beside me. Nobody wants an increase but 2.3% is very low. I'll just accept the $3/month I'll pay extra on my 3 vehicles in exchange for the piece of mind of knowing I can call my agent at 2am in the morning and she will be there to reassure me. If you want to shop around - it's certainly a good idea to check around on occasion. I still check occasionally but I can't seem to get anything comparable. State Farm has been good to me. They seem to be one of the few people I can depend on. "

" Good luck with another company. I've been with Gale Breed's office for over 20 years and I wouldn't ever think of switching from them. They are always helpful even on the weekends, and I'm talking about someone from their office not a claim person. Try getting that from Geico or Progressive. State Farm is the best!!! "

" another thing I have to budget it for...when is it going to STOP. State Farm I know for a FACT you give bonuses, fancy incentives etc. Can that stop??? "

POLICYHOLDER wrote on November 17, 2008 3:48 pm:
" Look out for companies that give you a lower rate. Your premiums will jump big time for the first claim or better yet you may be canceled. State Farm has the best coverage for the best price. You get what you pay for. State Farm agents are hometown people and will be there to fight for you and that is something you can't get from other companies that only give you the bare bones coverage and service. "

why wrote on November 17, 2008 4:13 pm:
" Maybe someone from the insurance industry can fill me in. Why is this a news story? Businesses raise their prices all the time. 2.3% is actually quite reasonable given annual inflation rates. "

State Farm Employee wrote on November 17, 2008 4:30 pm:
" Did you know, Geico and progressive are catching SF in policy holders? SF had a big, I mean real big lead, but it's sliping. SF hasn't stayed true. I work there and I don't have SF because they are to expensive! "

Randy wrote on November 17, 2008 4:49 pm:
" This is kinda strange,State Farm could not touch my rates with progressive.And.........To top it off 2 weeks my policy renewed and went down lots due to a decrease.I think somebody is being mislead holding State Farm Insurance when the folks from progressive told me Nebraska rates went down.Hop online and go to progressive and get a price quote its free,I did 2 years ago and they beat Nationwide which is associated with Allied by 40% needless to say the least the jerk i had as my independent agent, elimate agents and look for yourself Good luck "

" For those of you who want to leave State Farm more power to you, I work for another insurance company and have State Farm Insurance but I have one question for you people that want to leave... Didn't you get a premium check from State Farm about a year or two ago? and didn't hear you complain than? All I know is you can go to these other companys but you are not going to get what you pay for, have you ever had an accident where you injured someone badly or even killed someone. Believe me the other insurance companys run.. this happens they don't have the legal people to help you through this type of situation, they will leave you hanging in the air to fend for yourself. Also do any of you remember the Tornado that distroyed Hallam? Yea who had checks in their hands first so that they could survive that terrible outcome. State Farm Policyholders. "

" If you are military or military family, USAA is available to you. We had State Farm and switched to USAA and it beats it hands down. When companies call to compete and we tell them we have USAA they hang up. USAA blows every company out of the water in every category! "

There are Triple A agents who write the business. Oh - and by the way - with no concern about those "chargeable" claims - won't taks us long - good bye! "

" looks like several state farm agents are making posts. to say stuff like state farm is "worth every penny" & i am a "state farm loyalist"is laughable. i had a tree limb fall on my car and they raised my rates because it was over 1200 (needed to be under 1200) bucks calling it a collision. i have used them for 20 years and have never filed 1 claim and when i needed them they upped my rates. i will be looking elsewhere & there are plenty of insurance companies to choose from, & don't wish me luck, i don't need it! "

I have been trying to receive FAIR compensation (money I lost from not being able to work for 5 weeks) from an accident (which was NO FAULT of mine) for over 4 years now. GOOD LUCK to those of you who think State Farm is all that! "

" We ditched State Farm this summer after getting the run around on coverage after all the severe storms that we had damage. They would say things were not covered because of this and that but if it would have happened this way then it would have been. After years of fighting for coverage we took multiple policies away to a better and cheaper agency. You aren't stuck, look around there are better deals and better coverage! "

2.3 vs the tax argument wrote on November 18, 2008 10:08 am:
" Many of you compalining about a 2.3% average increase are also the first people to say that the government should be raising your own taxes on any number of things because the government needs more of our money. Now I will use your argument that I can afford an extra 2 bucks a month. The one difference is that in this equation, you actually get a great service for your money so no complaint here. State Farm has been our insurance carrier for over a decade, we have had claims, and they have always been fair. Not the case with our prior (Allied) or other party's insurance (American Family). "

If you are not getting any now, you could get the same if not better coverage with the best service there is! A measley rate increase is not going to phase me! I will get discounts of of the new rate! "

I agree with, you pay for what you get.. different companies have different perks.. find the one you like and go with it, but don't bad mouth something you MAY no nothing about !!!! "
