OMAHA — An Omaha woman has been ordered to serve five months in prison and pay more than $78,000 in restitution for filing false claims for Social Security benefits.

U.S. District Court Judge Laurie Smith Camp on Monday sentenced 63-year-old Caroline Stewart-Hunt for making false statements.

Stewart-Hunt pleaded guilty in August. She had faced up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

A news release from U.S. Attorney Joe Stecher’s office says Stewart-Hunt represented that she lived alone when, in truth, she had a spouse and tenants contributing to her expenses. If she had told the truth, she would have been ineligible for payments.
