The Gage County Sheriff’s Office is looking for the person who stole tires and a stereo from a car that had been in a crash early Sunday.

A 1996 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by 43-year-old Steve Pieper of Pickrell had been traveling east on Chestnut Road near SW 100th when Pieper lost control of the car and entered the south ditch, said Sheriff Millard “Gus” Gustafson.  The car rolled once before coming to rest in the south ditch.

Pieper, the sole occupant, received minor injuries and did not receive any medical attention, Gustafson said.  Seat belts were not being used and alcohol may have been a contributing factor.

The crash occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m. and the sheriff’s office was notified at approximately 9:45 a.m.  During that period of time, an unknown subject stole the tires off of the wrecked vehicle and stole the stereo, Gustafson said.

Anyone with information on the stolen items is encouraged to contact the Gage County Sheriff’s Office at 402-223-5222 or Crime Stoppers at 402-228-3636.

" my car broke down on the freeway in Omaha at the end of August. I had to leave it parked there and was told by the tow company they could not go get it for several hours. By the time they got there all the tires, battery, stereo and several other parts and items had been removed. It looked like the grench had visited. I called to make a police report and had to leave my information on a recording and never heard from OPD in person. "
