OMAHA, Neb. — Omaha police say a security guard at Westroads Mall was handcuffed by three burglars in an attempted robbery that saw the culprits leave empty-handed.

Police say the incident happened around 4 a.m. Monday.

The mall security officer told police that he came across three men trying to break into the food court ATM. The guard says one of the men then pulled a gun and handcuffed the officer.

Police say the men were unable to get cash out of the ATM and left on foot.

" Pulled a gun? Impossible! Firearms are prohibited at Westroads, so this couldn't possibly have happened. Neither could have the Hawkins shootings, because firearms were also verboten by mall rules at that time. "

" Gun free zones...where only the criminals are armed.

I hope the security guard is unharmed. "

" The burglars tied me up at 1:40 until 4:35 a.m. when I finally could get my phone to call 911 because I was tied up and handcuffed to a counter. I have afew bruises and my thumb is still numb but nothing major. They were trying to break into it for over 2 hours however and he did have a firearm pointed at me when I first encountered him "
