Kearney plant cuts workforce by more than 60
By The Associated Press
KEARNEY — A Kearney plant is laying off more than 60 people because of the severe problems in the global auto industry.
The latest round of layoffs at Eaton Corp. will drop the plant’s workforce to about 500. The plant began the year with a staff of about 640 people.
The plant manufactures valves and gears for automakers.
The company this year has had two temporary layoffs where salaried staff took time off without pay and hourly workers received buyouts.
Personnel manager Lisa Prater says more challenges likely remain for the rest of 2008.
