Osborn knocking on doors to return money
OMAHA — Nebraska Treasurer Shane Osborn plans to knock on doors and personally return more than $500,000 in unclaimed property.
Osborn will spend his Tuesday morning knocking on doors in Omaha. The door-to-door stunt is designed to raise awareness about unclaimed property.
Under state law, the state treasurer is responsible for handling unclaimed property. Examples include health claim payments, dividends, utility deposits, life insurance proceeds, wages, stocks, outstanding checks, safety deposit boxes and unused gift certificates.
Nebraskans can check to see if they are owed any unclaimed property online at www.treasurer.org.
