University of Nebraska-Lincoln police caught a man allegedly trying to steal bicycles on campus early Saturday, only to learn the man was wanted for stealing three bikes at UNL in 2006.

Police saw Mark Becerra, 25, of Lincoln allegedly trying to removed locked bikes from a rack near Nebraska Hall around 1:28 a.m., said Capt. Carl Oestmann.

Police learned they had three broadcasts for Becerra for some bike thefts in 2006, Oestmann said. One of the stolen bikes was worth $1,200, making the theft a felony.

Becerra was arrested and jailed on suspicion of possession of stolen property, Oestmann said. He also was cited on suspicion of trespassing and possession of stolen property for allegedly stealing two other bikes, worth $400 and $185.

Becerra was recently released from prison, where he served a 22-month sentence for theft by receiving stolen property.
