The Stars scored three unanswered goals in the final period to come back from a 3-2 deficit and post their third win of the season Saturday, 5-3 over Sioux City.

Lincoln coach Jimmy McGroarty called it the team’s “most complete game of the year.”

“We wore them down physically,” McGroarty said.

McGroarty credited physical play and the checks his team delivered early in the first and second periods for Lincoln’s third-period scoring spree. Lincoln outshot Sioux City 37-31 overall and 10-8 in the third period.

The Stars were led by Brett Chartier, who scored the first goal on assists by Dan Weiss and Corey Chakeen at the 3:32 mark. Chartier was credited with the assist on Lincoln’s next goal, by Richard Manley, and tied the game with a goal just 30 seconds into the third period.

“Brett is a big-time player,” McGroarty said. “He’s a smart, young guy that makes plays in tight areas that other guys can’t. He stepped up to the forefront tonight.”

After accounting for all of Lincoln’s offense early, Chartier was helped out by a Chris Forfar score late in the game and an empty-netter by David Gerths that drove the nail in the coffin. Lincoln goalie Alan Ammour played all 60 minutes and had 28 saves.

The Stars will return to the Ice Box for a three-game homestand that begins Friday against Fargo.
