Morningside sets records vs. Hastings

Morningside quarterback Ian Gilworth set a school record for touchdowns in a game Saturday as the Mustangs earned a 63-13 win against Hastings in Sioux City, Iowa.

Gilworth finished with seven touchdown passes. The Mustangs also set a team mark with eight touchdown passes, as backup quarterback Tim Richard threw for the final score with 8:58 left.

C.J. Gradoville kicked all eight point-after attempts, setting a career record with 85 PATs. Gradoville has missed just one PAT in his career.

* NEBRASKA-OMAHA 42, MISSOURI WESTERN 14: UNO running back Brian McNeill ran for a career-high 272 yards and four touchdowns in Omaha. The Mavericks tallied a season-high 589 yards to snap a two-game losing streak. The Mavericks held Missouri Western to just 36 yards rushing and 221 yards of total offense.

* NORTHWESTERN, IOWA 21, MIDLAND 10: Northwestern’s Taylor Malm rushed for 65 yards and a touchdown and also had a 73-yard punt return in Orange City, Iowa. Midland led 7-0 in the first quarter when Tyler Pacas scored on a 28-yard pass from John Faulkner. The Red Raiders then scored 21 straight points to take control. Midland punted 14 times, a Great Plains Athletic Conference record.

* DORDT 17, CONCORDIA 14: Dordt’s Nick Sohre kicked a 21-yard field goal with 10:42 left to lift Dordt in Sioux Center, Iowa. Concordia led 14-7 at halftime, but was held scoreless in the second half. Wade Houchin caught two TD passes from T.J. Shirley to lead Concordia.

* NEBRASKA-KEARNEY 58, NEW MEXICO HIGHLANDS 14: Kyle Kaiser finished with five receptions for 144 yards for the Lopers in Kearney. UNK took a 34-7 first-quarter lead and cruised.

* NW OKLAHOMA ST. 45, PERU ST. 21: NAIA ninth-ranked Northwestern Oklahoma State racked up 452 yards of total offense, including 327 through the air, in Peru. The Bobcats tallied just 193 yards of offense, 107 on the ground.

* WAYNE ST. 30, BEMIDJI ST. 11: In Wayne, the Wildcats overcame a slow start, then scored 20 points in the second quarter. Bemidji scoring on a fake punt on its first possession.

* CHADRON ST. 43, WESTERN NEW MEXICO 17: Joe McLain passed for 250 yards and five TDs as the NCAA Division II No. 13 Eagles won in Chadron. The Eagles also rushed for 228 yards. The win gave Chadron State its 23rd straight Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference win. Western New Mexico managed just 102 yards of total offense. 

* DAKOTA WESLEYAN 14, DOANE 7: Dakota Wesleyan forced five turnovers, including a school record-tying three interceptions by senior cornerback Eric Adolph, to edge out a 14-7 victory over Doane.

Doane quarterback Anthony Dunn finished the game 9-for-23 passing with one touchdown and four interceptions.

On the other side, DWU signal-caller Jon Doom was 21-for-34 passing for 215 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. Dakota Wesleyan’s Jim Williams ran for 94 yards on 22 carries, while Doane was held to 265 yards of total offense. Alex Hall led Doane with 51 rushing yards on 15 carries.
