Park managers with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission have canceled plans for a controlled burn on Chadron State Park as part of the park’s forest management program.

Park superintendent Dave Kinnamon said an Oct. 20 public meeting also has been canceled.

Kinnamon said park managers still intend to do slash-pile burning in the winter with appropriate snow cover.

Hunters can visit Ikes for sight-in days: The Lincoln Izaak Walton League will host hunter sight-in days the next three weekends.

Hunters can sight-in their centerfire and muzzleloading hunting rifles for $5 per rifle. The club’s range will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on each day.

The sight-in days will be Oct. 19, Oct. 26 and Nov. 2.

Wildlife group to host fundraiser in Lincoln: The Nebraska Wildlife Federation will host a fundraiser called Falling For Wildlife from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday night in Lincoln.

The event will feature heavy hors d’oeuvres, live and silent auctions, raffles and a cash bar at the Holiday Inn Downtown, 141 N. Ninth St.
