PLATTSMOUTH— A former Plattsmouth educator who fought to keep her $101,050 salary when her Class I school district was dissolved has died.

The Roby Funeral Home in Plattsmouth confirms that 81-year-old Carrie Hansen died Wednesday at an Omaha hospital. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday in Plattsmouth.

Hansen had been principal and kindergarten teacher for the Stull District until it was absorbed by Plattsmouth in 2006.

The larger district assigned her to teach fourth grade and cut her salary by more than half. Hansen filed a lawsuit, arguing that her new employer did not have authority to amend her Stull contract, but a judge rejected her claim.

Hansen retired from the Plattsmouth district in 2007.

" Mrs Hansen was about so much more then a pay check. She was not a teacher for the money she was a teacher for the kids. She may have gotten a very large check but let me tell you she earned every doller of it and more. Her contract may have been for a 1/2 day of kindergarten and a 1/2 day of superentendent but for her a day at school was close to twelve plus hours. She ate slept and breathed Class I schools. Though schools was not all she was involved in. She was also very active the state lions club and many other civic organizatins in and around the state of Nebraska. She will me very missed by lots of people and will be remembered fondly. "
