Police: Teens caught trying to steal car
Police caught two teenagers they say were trying to steal a car early Friday.
A woman called police at 3:40 a.m. after seeing two teenagers acting suspiciously near a 1994 Mercury Sable parked on the 1100 block of South 12th Street, said Officer Katie Flood.
When police arrived, both of the boys ran, but they were caught about a block away, Flood said. The teenagers were allegedly trying to steal the car so they could drive it to Omaha for a party.
Craig Squires, 19, was arrested and jailed on suspicion of attempted auto theft, possession of burglars tools, trespassing and marijuana possession, Flood said.
Squires allegedly had two screwdrivers, a large pipe wrench and a small amount of marijuana, Flood said.
A 14-year-old boy with Squires was taken to the Lancaster County Juvenile Detention Center, and he will be referred to the county attorney for charges, Flood said.
