Jones to highlight state golf hall of fame
By the Lincoln Journal Star
Knox Jones, a two-time Nebraska amateur golfer of the year and four-time state champion, will headline the newest group of inductees into the Nebraska Golf Hall of Fame today at the Country Club of Lincoln.
Jones, who finished tied for second in this year’s state amateur tournament, won titles in 1994, 2000 and 2001. A former Lincoln Southeast state junior champion, Jones was an honorable mention All-American at Nebraska. He turned pro for a short time but then returned to amateur golf. He had almost given up competitive golf until coming back for a run at this year’s state title.
He will be inducted along with four-time state amateur of the year David Clouse of Friend. Clouse won a state high school championship and was a standout at Nebraska Wesleyan before winning state match-play title in 1991 and a state amateur title in 1999. He also reached the Trans-Mississippi semifinals twice and won the amateur crown at the Nebraska Open three times.
Dick Bolin of Gering, who won three state senior titles, and Dottie Bowman will also be inducted.
