Barrel explosion injures Douglas man
A rural Douglas man suffered broken bones and cuts to his face Monday night after a barrel he was cutting exploded.
Sam Focken was cutting the top off a metal barrel when sparks ignited fumes trapped inside it, said Otoe County Chief Sheriff’s Deputy Mike Holland.
Holland said he wasn’t sure what Focken used to cut the barrel. A Douglas Fire and Rescue ambulance took him to Bryan LGH Medical Center West. He was listed in fair condition Tuesday.
The explosion outside of Focken’s home south of Douglas caused no property damage, Holland said.
