Host Norfolk converted a third-and-8 from its own territory and drove for the go-ahead touchdown with 1:15 to play in the game.

Tyson McGill’s 5-yard run gave the Panthers a 34-30 win over Lincoln Southeast, capping a game in which the lead changed hands seven times.

Southeast (1-4, 0-1) had taken the lead on a 10-yard pass from Connor Smith to Cornell Leffler with 4:44 to go in the game.

“It was one of those games, whoever got it last was going to have the best chance to come out the victor,” Southeast coach John Larsen said. “We had them backed up, and if we could have held them there, I think we would have been able to run out the clock and win the game.”

Norfolk (2-3, 1-0) was led by quarterback Lance Lawson, who rushed 25 times for 184 yards and three touchdowns and threw for another 61 yards.

Southeast’s Zach Taylor rushed for 120 yards on 17 carries and Dierre Alford ran for 97 yards on 16 carries.

In his first start, Southeast quarterback Connor Smith threw for 71 yards and a pair of touchdowns to Cornell Leffler.

The Knights’ last drive ended on an interception by Norfolk’s A.J. Spanel.
