Fund named for slain Omaha woman reaches nearly $20,000

OMAHA — Nearly $20,000 has been donated to a scholarship fund established in the memory of an University of Nebraska at Omaha student murdered earlier this year.
The fund provides financial assistance to a student who is a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority or the Goodrich program, two organizations in which Brittany Williams was involved.
Williams was shot and killed in January as she waited in an Omaha fast-food restaurant drive-through lane. Kyle Bormann, 20, has been convicted in her death.
University of Nebraska President James Milliken donated the initial $5,000 for the fund.
The first scholarship under the fund will be awarded in the fall. UNO hopes to raise enough money to make the scholarship a full-tuition award.
