Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital Monday presented its 14th Annual Madonna Chairman’s Goal Awards, honoring the courage, determination and generosity of Madonna patients.

This year’s award recipients were:

* Jermomie Meyer of Woodbine, Iowa, who suffered a spinal cord injury when he was struck by a drunk driver. Meyer is now back in school and is a member of the national champion Red Dawgs wheelchair basketball team.

* Stephanie Wever of Omaha who had a stroke at age 22. She is now married and is enjoying time with her husband and family.

* Joan Bunton of Western who had a massive heart attack, then had her leg amputated as a result of complications following heart surgery. Bunton can now walk with a prosthetic and is building a new home.

* Dusty Feil of Luray, Kan., who hit a guide wire while driving a loaded grain truck. The wire severed his left arm and the accident caused a traumatic brain injury. Feil has since returned to farming with his wife, and has renovated much of their home himself.

" Congratulations to all the Goal Award winners for 2008. My mother, Gretchen Pettit, was one of the winners in 2002. Sadly, she passed away 2 months later but nothing made her prouder than to be chosen, The winners of this award have shown more heart and determination than most of us can ever imagine. God bless you all. You deserve this award for never giving up and showing us the true meaning of courage. "
