Glenn company buys Garner's home and garden division
By The Lincoln Journal Star
Steve Glenn, President and CEO of Headwind Consumer Products announced the acquisition of the home and garden division from Garner Industries, located between Lincoln and Waverly.
Terms were not disclosed.
“Our plan is to move the manufacturing, administrative and warehouse operations of this business to our recently acquired warehouse facility in Tecumseh, Nebraska,” Glenn said in a release. The Tecumseh location will serve as the temporary location for the business until a new manufacturing plant can be constructed in southeast Nebraska.
Glenn said he is in discussions with the Pawnee City Development Corp. with hopes to construct a new 14,000 sq. foot manufacturing plant. If that plant is built, the warehouse in Tecumseh would be maintained, he said.
The new company will start production in mid-October with plans to initially employ 10-20 people, Glenn said, and could expand to as many as 30 people within 24 months. Applications for the new positions are being accepted at the Tecumseh warehouse, 130 S. 12th St.
The Home and Garden division of Garner Industries is one of the countries largest manufacturers of rain gauges. The rain gauge production line features the EZRead – The world’s most popular brand of rain gauge, according to Glenn. The line also includes a new line of decorative rain gauges, as well as a new illuminated gauge.
The Glenn family also owns Executive Travel, Glenn’s True Value and Lincoln True Value, all in Lincoln, Pawnee True Value and Heavenly Treasures, a quilt store, both in Pawnee City and other ventures.
