Indian Center awarded federal grant
By the Lincoln Journal Star
Indian Center Inc. of Lincoln announced Tuesday that it has been awarded a federal grant of $917,625 to help provide mental health services for Native American youth and their families.
The three-year grant was awarded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Center for Mental Health Services (SAMSHA).
The Indian Center will partner with Omaha’s Center for Native Americans Inc. to determine mental health service gaps and formulate a plan to increase the capacity and effectiveness of “culturally appropriate behavioral health systems.” The agencies said they would use family-driven and youth-guided principles to develop the care system.
“We are excited about this new program and its eventual application of providing mental health services to the Indian families of Lincoln and Omaha, especially our youth,” said Barbara Grant, project director.
The Indian Center was one of only seven agencies in the country to receive Circle of Care funding from SAMSHA.
