Comments

Class A: It’s no surprise that Papillion-La Vista emerged unbeaten after two weekends, but North Star’s 12-0 start is a different story. The Navigators have four one-run wins, including one against Lincoln Southwest in the Heartland Conference Tournament final. The rest of the top Omaha teams have taken turns defeating one another. There’s more of that to come in the Metro Conference Tournament.

Class B: Waverly made the biggest jump thanks in large part to its win against Elkhorn. Unbeaten Seward is fresh off a big win against Beatrice. Waverly and Seward will meet Sept. 18.

Class C: Preseason No. 1 Twin River lost to new No. 1 Wayne. Bennington’s lone loss is to Class B Elkhorn. Yutan/Mead debuts after an unbeaten start. The consolidated program has a win against another coop (Fillmore Central/Exeter-Milligan). Wayne plays Tekamah-Herman tonight.

" I'm curious as to who does the rankings. It's pretty good to have a record of 5-4 and be ranked #4 or 2-6 and #9. Must be who you are and not your record that enters in to it, or else all the other teams are 0 - ?. "

" Weeellll if the team you are referring to in the #9 spot is Ralston look at how many class A teams they play vs. the rest of the class B teams. They have fought hard all season losing in extra innings and by 1 run. Elkhorn is ranked as high as they are because of their previous accomplishments. Do you want to talk about the Lincoln schools being ranked as high as they are. Who have they played? Who have they beaten? How many double headers do they all have on their schedules? At some point they are going to have to prove it on the field, then we will see if they have earned that high ranking.

It's early yet, there is time for everyone to move up and down the polls. The only ranking that matters is who wins their district and then who gets the wild card points. We shall see if the 12 double headers help or hurt the Lincoln teams. "

" I agree with the fact that it is early, and there is plenty of time to work it out on the field.

In my opinion, the LJS does a pretty good job with their rankings. I think that the metro bias is not a factor in the lower classes, and the only way that can be done is to actually study the schedules, and games. WHO you play is much more important in this ranking than wins and losses. I agree with this method of ranking teams, and forecasting future match-ups. Let's face it, a 1 run loss to a ranked higher class team is of more value than a 6 run win over an unranked team in the same class.

Anytime I question a ranking, I go to the NSAA website, and check out the wildcard points. Usually, I am able to find the justification for the teams place in the ranking. "
