Body in Missouri River may be Omaha man
OMAHA — Investigators say they’ve identified a body found in the Missouri River near Plattsmouth as that of a missing Omaha man.
Cass County Sheriff’s officials say relatives last spoke with 30-year-old Freddie Gonzales on Aug. 24. The man, who lived in the Hanscom Park neighborhood, hadn’t been heard from since.
Some fisherman found the body Sunday. An autopsy ruled the preliminary cause of death as drowning. Authorities used DNA tests and dental records to identify the man.
Investigators are still trying to determine how Gonzales drowned, but say they don’t suspect foul play.
