OMAHA — A 5-year-old Omaha boy who took the wrong van after school is safe.

The child was found Wednesday night, hours after he got on the wrong van at the Lothrop Magnet Center. He was supposed to board a van for his day care but instead got on the Boys and Girls Club van. His parents told school officials about 6:30 p.m. that he was missing.

Luanne Nelson of the Omaha Public Schools says the club was one of the first places that police checked, but they didn’t find him. After checking other possibilities, the club was rechecked, and the boy was found around 8 p.m.

Nelson said the school and the club will review their procedures.

" OMG a 3 yr old is walking with her 5 yr old brother and the 3 yr old gets hit by a car!!!!!!!!! next a 5 yr old takes the wrong van. where the heck is the ADULT supervision in either one of these cases. i can't believe how ANY parent or teacher can think a 5yr old is so grown up to give them these types of responsibilities. Remember the days when a parent walked you or drove you to school until you hit middle school and/or maybe even until you got a drivers permit. "
