Couple arrested in connection with stolen Jetta
By the Lincoln Journal Star
Police have arrested two people in connection with a car stolen out of Las Vegas last week.
Police received a CrimeStoppers call Wednesday that a woman with four warrants was in an apartment on the 2600 block of J Street, said Officer Katie Flood. The caller also said there might be a stolen vehicle outside.
When officers arrived they found a white 2005 Volkswagen Jetta with Nevada plates parked outside, Flood said. The car had been stolen in an armed robbery in Las Vegas on Aug. 28.
The woman who lives in the apartment allowed police to search the residence, Flood said. Terri Russell, 27, was found hiding in a closet, and her boyfriend, Wallace Effort, 32, was allegedly found hiding in the bathroom.
Russell and Effort both were arrested on misdemeanor warrants — Russell had four and Effort had five, Flood said. Both are transients.
The keys to the stolen Jetta were found in Russell’s purse, Flood said.
Russell and Effort were arrested and jailed on suspicion of felony possession of stolen property, Flood said. Russell also was cited on suspicion of three counts of forgery for checks she allegedly forged in January.
