$3.8M grant aimed at scientists for UNL
By The Associated Press
A five-year grant of nearly $4 million will help the University of Nebraska-Lincoln recruit more women to teach science to more female science students.
The $3.8 million National Science Foundation grant also will pay for a professional development program that will include mentoring, plus workshops on writing technical papers.
Experts say that when female students don't have good role models, they often drop out of science, resulting in a brain drain.
The National Science Foundation says just 29 percent of science and engineering teachers at four-year colleges and universities are women.
