Last month, local adventure racers raised $2,239 for the Child Advocacy Center.

The Lancaster County Deputy Sheriff’s Association (Fraternal Order of  Police Lodge 29) and the Nebraska Sports Council co-sponsored The Link / FOP 29 Race race Aug. 2 in Lincoln, said Capt. Ben Houchin.

The 37 teams and 101 competitors ran, biked and paddled kayaks in the adventure race, which began and ended at Pioneers Park, Houchin said.

Susan Beckmann, developmental coordinator for the Child Advocacy Center, said the organization would put the funds toward general operating costs.

The center serves children who are victims of alleged physical or sexual assault, Beckmann said.

" I'm here to tell you straight up that these races are FUN! Now when people tell me that I am crazy to put myself through all the rigors of these races I can say they are for a good cause. Thanks to the Sports Council and all the sponsers for continuing to put on a GREAT reace series! "
