COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa — The Iowa State Patrol says a trooper who shot and wounded a man after a car chase in Council Bluffs has been placed on administrative leave.

Trooper Tim Sieleman fired two shots at Matthew Loth, of Plattsmouth, Neb., on Tuesday afternoon. Officials say Loth refused to turn off his car and turned it toward the trooper in a “threatening manner.”

Loth was treated at an Omaha hospital and then turned over to Nebraska authorities. He is being held on an outstanding warrant in that state. Officials say he must be released or post bond before he can be extradited to Iowa.

Pottawattamie County prosecutors say a warrant has been issued for Loth on suspicion of attempted murder for allegedly trying to strike the trooper with his car. Additional charges could be filed after the investigation is completed.

Sieleman was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an official inquiry. Such inquiries are routine.
