Saint Elizabeth Regional Medical Center announced it reached an agreement on a multi-year contract with United Healthcare of the Midlands, meaning people insured by United Healthcare can continue to receive care from Saint Elizabeth and its network of physicians.

The contract between Saint Elizabeth and United Healthcare had been scheduled to expire Sunday.

The agreement affects several thousand people in Lincoln who could have been forced to change doctors and hospitals or pay a larger share of their health care bills.

According to an e-mail Friday from Saint Elizabeth, “At the eleventh hour a multi-year contract was reached and is now signed between Saint Elizabeth Regional Medical Center and United Healthcare of the Midlands.”

The hospital said the agreement means those insured by United Healthcare will not have their medical coverage interrupted.

The new contract covers all United Healthcare members, including United Healthcare Medicare and Medicaid patients, United Healthcare participants who are covered by a policy through their employer or through their spouse’s employer, and privately-held United Healthcare policy participants.

" this is good news; I dislike paying the "balance payments" that have been assoiciated with UHC. This is a start in fortifying their network, but they still have some voids in their coverage. "

" Too bad. UHC is a terrible insurance company. I am a medical provider and they are the worst ones we deal with. Had to drop many contracts due to their abusive policies. In one instance I was told by UHC that one visit a year was adequate for a patient.Huh? We dropped that contract. "

" sa, i agree, UHC is not the best, but for those of us forced to use them by our employers this is great news. taking my hospital needs away from St. E's really was putting me out of my comfort zone and causing stress on me and my family emotionally. "

" As a UHC customer, I can not say how glad I am that this agreement was made. My family has always gone to Saint Elizabeth, when needed, and I was not looking forward to having to resort to Bryan Hospital. Bryan is a pro-abortion hospital, demonstrated once again on Thursday when the new abortion doctor of Planned Parenthood was welcomed into their network at the Country Club, and I was very nervous about having to seek treatment there for my family and I. I am so thankful that I now do not have to face that decision. Thank you Saint Elizabeth for working so hard to keep us UHC clients. We really appreciate you, even if we think our insurance STINKS! "

" No Hospital is pro-abortion in this town. It is the person who is pro-abortion and not the facility. Please people get you facts straight when posting. I am not personally pro-abortion nor do support it. Country club associations do not designate what hospitals a Physician works for. Physician's work for themselves or groups of other doctors which then may or may not have privelages at certain hospitals. "

" My wife has been in the hospital several times and the only time we had to cover any of those expenses was when there was a lack of communication between the hospital and UHC regarding a change of treatment. "

" UHC has allot more problems than people realize and isn't the quality provider meeting policy holder expectations. Local employers must be looking for "cheap" rather than "value" when buying into UHC because it is far from a model of excellence. And I fear, under McCain, the coverage will go down and premiums increase. "

" Pro-choice is the correct term. Never met a pro-choice person yet that thought abortion was a real good thing. "

" We used to have United HealthCare and we were happy with them. Switched companies and now have BlueCross. Happy to hear that Saint Elizabeth's reached an agreement with United. St. Elizabeth's has always been the best in Lincoln. Definitely my 1st choice, when needed. "
