City Libraries hours wrote on August 30, 2008 12:16 am:
" The city library hours won't resume to their "regular" hourss on Tuesday. The new, restrictive hours of service begin on Tuesday!

I can't believe that the mayor and the city council thought reducing hours in the libraries was a way to save money. I am disappointed that Bennett Martin will be closing at 6:00 every night. What are the Chanber of Commerce and the Economic Development people going to say when businesses ask about the libraries or the opportunities for self-improvement of its employees? Oh sure, just run over to Love Library and try to find something! If this city wants high paying, high tech jobs, then you have to have highly educated workers.

There are so many pressures on children and families to skip reading and to choose the easy way of video and computer entertainment. The libraries provide entertaining alternatives which introduce children to reading and then keep them reading. Reduced hours will make it harder for families to get to the libraries and take advantage of some growth opportunities.

I rather have the libraries open and fully functioning instead of spending money on a new park or whatever it is supposed to be in the Antelope Valley area. The knowledge in the libraries will last longer than the grass in the park. "

" I second that.I can't believe that cutting library hours is the way to go. I know you can access library learning material on their website.(check it out people), but so many children and adults still don't have pcs or laptops.Since our Bethany Library is not going to have any evening hours, this means having to drive to Anderson. Gas is an expense people can ill afford these days. There's got to be a better way to cut expenses than cutting into learning experienses. "

" It is disgusting. Childen use the library and students all around. The books and computers (for school) are very important! Closing at 6:00, were are your priorities!!!

Maybe cut the hours and pay of some of your top city council or library people who sit in their offices. "
