Ultimate Home Delivery winner to be picked Saturday
By MELISSA LEE / Lincoln Journal Star
Saturday, a Lincoln Journal Star subscriber will win a new, $300,000 home.
It could be the retired business instructor. Or the grandmother from Bennet. Or the cancer survivor. Or the Husker fan who lives in Arnold Heights.
Or one of six other finalists in the newspaper’s Ultimate Home Delivery contest.

At 10 a.m., each of the 10 finalists will draw a key to insert into a door. And the finalist who draws the key that fits will win one of five homes — appraised at $300,000.
The newspaper launched the contest in January, partnering with five builders.
Journal Star subscribers were automatically entered into the contest, though non-subscribers could enter as well.
The finalists — all subscribers — were chosen at random over a series of months.
The winning keyholder gets to choose the home he or she wants. The four remaining houses will go on the market.
The homes are in the Fallbrook, Heritage Lakes, Village Gardens, Waterford Estates and Wilderness Hills subdivisions.
Promotions like Ultimate Home Delivery have been done before — but rarely in mid-sized towns like Lincoln, said John Murray, vice president of circulation and marketing at the Arlington, Va.-based Newspaper Association of America, a nonprofit organization that represents the newspaper industry.
“It’s been done, but it doesn’t happen every day,” Murray said. “I haven’t seen it done in anything but a major metropolitan market.”
He called the promotion an innovative one.
“It’s wonderful when a newspaper and local businesses are creative and can come out with a win-win situation and ultimately a win for some lucky subscriber,” he said.

The organizations that came together to make this happen are to be congratulated for doing something positive.
Those of you wearing rose-colored glasses shouldn't fault those who see room for improvement. The exchange of ideas and opinions is precisely what this space is for. "
